Yesterday was the first day of March and all I can say is yea!!! I heard some birds chirping in the yard and I think I've never heard a more lovely sound. Ok, that's not exactly true but I'm just looking forward to spring. Farewell February....I hated every day of you....you were cruel to me and my family. It isn't just that we were sick every day of February and it isn't just that you killed our refrigerator mid-month and it isn't just that Congress passed 1 trillion in new spending last week and it isn't just that people who came to see my house kept asking where the basement was...it isn't just that a weird Russian tried to open my front door for his own private house showing on Saturday. It's that I think February is a weird month...you're the weakest among all the months. You are the shortest and what's up with leap year anyway?
Well, enough about February. Thankfully I don't have to see it again for another year. Let's talk about March. My senior year in High School I went to San Francisco, with my Art History Class, in March. It was one of the funniest trips I've ever been on. My teacher was one of my favorites in High School and most of my closest girlfriends were on the trip. It seemed to mark the end of my senior year. After that trip I did more sluffing and had more fun than any other time during High School. I can't help but get a big wave of nostalgia each March. Sometimes I honestly think I wish I was still 17 and my biggest worry was that we walked through the red light district at night when we weren't supposed to, or that I'd been asked to speak at Seminary Graduation and I'd sluffed so much I was sure I was even going to pass Seminary, or that we got stuck in the airport with only what Sarah had in her backpack to eat (you did have some great snacks) or that I hope Lincoln didn't catch me trying to take a picture of him without him knowing because I thought he was cute! Those were the days. Oh, one last memory....going to the Sunday service at Glide Memorial and how I had to hold hands with the bum that sat next to me and that the female pastor said in her prayer that it was time to turn HIStory into HERSTORY!! I just don't have these kinds of trips anymore.
