Claire's Sick Week and Love Notes

Claire has been home sick all week.  As my kids have gotten older and consequently, sick less often, I had forgotten how tiring it is to care for a sick person.  There were times this week that I was wishing for a moment to myself but I mostly had moments that I soaked up with my little girl who is fastly becoming a big girl. By day three of her illness both of us were sick of being stuck inside and so I suggested we take a walk.  She wanted to get outside but felt too weak to walk so I offered to push her in the stroller.  For part of the walk I felt funny pushing an almost 6 year old in the stroller but then it struck me that it was likely the last time I would be pushing her in a stroller.  I have to say I enjoyed every minute of pushing her and by the end I felt a tiny bit wistful and confused at the passage of time. She has spent most of week wanting to be held and sung to and I had forgotten how fulfilling that can feel to have your child asleep on your lap.

(Note reads:   Dear Mom, I love you so very much.  You make me feel like a flower)

This morning as I stepped out of the shower I saw something white on the counter.  I didn't have my contacts in and I was trying desperately to remember if I had left something there.  I hurriedly put in my contacts to find perhaps the sweetest note I have every received in my life.  I can think of no higher compliment than making someone feel like a flower.  That is what Claire is to me.  A flower that beautifies and brightens my life.  Strong enough to withstand a late spring snow storm and delicate enough to kept as a treasure.  I love my girl.
