No Rhyme or Reason
Lately I have found it hard to find anything on the TV that interests me and one night I got way desperate and clicked on Perry Mason on PBS. I am now fully addicted and have set my DVR to record it and I have a hard time falling asleep until I've watched an episode. Black and white TV just feels cozy somehow and what could be better than watching something for 45 mins sand commercials?
This Perry Mason kick has me noticing a few things. First, did all women have deep voices in the late 1950's? Tim thinks it is because they all smoked and I think he might have something there but I wonder if that was seen as sexy? Also, all the girls that the Private Detective finds attractive are blond. I wish men still wore hats and suits and 1950's dresses sure show off a women's figure. One thing that is not doing the women form any favors are the bras! They give a distinctive cone shape to the chest and it looks way weird but Perry doesn't seem to mind. I think Perry is kind of dreamy....and so smart. He is always in the right place at the right time. Does anyone know if he ends up with his secretary?
Gage has a lot of spelling words each week and it takes us a long time each night to work through his spelling sorts. I don't remember having spelling words in 1st grade and if I did I certainly didn't have 20 a week. His last test had words that are said the same but spelled differently. The four he got hung up on were bore and boar, and horse and hoarse. Why does the English language have words like that anyway?
The weather here can only be described one way....gray....it matches my mood or possibly is causing my mood? It has been unseasonably cold and wet. I saw the sun yesterday and even though it was cold and there was still some snow on the ground I went for a walk in the morning because I wasn't sure how long it was going to stick around. Today, it is gray and cold again and I'm noticing that people are openly defying mother nature in what they choose to wear. It won't hit 50 degrees today and I'm seeing shorts and flip flops. We are all getting desperate. I saw one guy mowing his lawn in shorts and wife beater and sandals this morning and even though my car thermometer said it was only 46 degrees I thought, "Way to go!" I'm all about living in denial.
This week was spring break and I started a few painting projects to keep busy. I've been lovingly calling them my grief projects. They have all been painted a distressed white. The project that started the whole thing is this coat rack...
I made it for Gage's class to auction off at the Art's Night at school to raise money for the arts. The children drew the trees and I mod podged it on a board that came from Mom and Dad's old water bed that I painted...you guessed it...distressed white. I found these adorable bird hooks and viola you have a coat rack. I hope it sells well. I only had $29 to make it with.
One good thing about a Dad who holds onto everything is that he had more wood from the water bed and I made a shelf for my bedroom. Tim just hung it today and I am finally able to display some of Tim's paintings. He is one talented guy.
This one is my favorite....
Last, I painted an old book shelf that I had in my bedroom. The thing must have been 25 years old and was dark brown. Not anymore....it matches the shelf. Loving it.
My grief projects haven't really helped my grief all that much, but I did hold it at bay while I was working on them and I do have some cute new pieces for my bedroom so I guess that is a success.

Luke's Itches
I was getting out of the shower on Monday morning and I heard Luke crying. Tim was home and by the time I got my robe on to head downstairs he had stopped so I kept getting ready. About ten minutes later Tim came into the bedroom and said there was a change in plans for the day because Luke needed stitches in his forehead. In Tim's arms sat the saddest specimen I have ever seen. It seems that while Tim and Luke were building Lego's that in Luke's excitement he tripped over Tim's legs and hit his head on the corner of the phone stand door. Tim was a little pale and said that when he saw all the blood and Luke holding his face that he thought he had poked his eye out. Thankfully, the gash was above his eyebrow, but the gash was so deep that Tim saw his bone. EEEEK.
I am not squeamish in any way shape or form. In that way I could have been a doctor. But when it comes to seeing my kids blood I am a Victorian Madam who needs her smelling salts. Oh my nerves....nobody knows what I suffer! It is the weirdest thing. However I congratulate myself that the kids are never the wiser because I always seem to keep myself collected on the outside.
We headed to the Urgent Care office by our house. "Urgent Care" has be to the biggest oxymoron in the entire English language. The waiting room was full of stomach aches and sinus infections and when my little Lukey has blood running down his face I felt close to the edge. We waited for close to an hour and of course they had already collected my co-payment before I went up and said that if I had to wait for 10 more minutes I wanted my money back and I was going somewhere else. Literally 2 minutes later the nurse came out and said she was preparing a room. Really people was that, that hard? I think not!
Anyway, four stitches later my little man looks like this. He was such a brave boy and only cried when he thought about getting the shot not when she actually gave him about 6. He hated having his face covered but once I got him talking about Ninjas and Star Wars the doctor got an ear full and was able to do her work. After it was over the nurse and doctor were saying they had never treated such a good patient. What a kid.
Oh, by the way Luke says he got itches not stitches....hence the title. :)

You've Got Mail
While Tim was working a lot of overtime the boys started leaving notes under his pillow and Tim would reply in the morning. The boys loved getting notes and Tim usually drew them something on it. Claire even got into the action leaving scribbles for him and Tim drew Elmo in return.
I was feeling especially crafty one day and so I made this mailbox for the kids and put it outside their bedrooms. That red flag goes up and down by the way. Go me!! They have loved leaving notes for Tim and getting their own mail each morning. The address is 123 Hall Dr. in case you want to drop them a line! I wonder if anyone will get real honest to goodness mail in 10 years? Is it a thing of the past? I sure hope not I love getting mail.
